Demands and Needs
Our product meets the demands and needs of those who wish insurance cover that will vary by product as follows
If motor insurance has been purchased then in the event of a motor accident, claims against them by third parties for personal injury or damage to property during the policy term will be met. Cover may be extended to include fire, theft and accidental damage to the insured vehicle.
If home insurance has been purchased then in the event of their Buildings and/or Contents being lost or damaged against a range of specified events such as fire and weather related losses throughout the duration of the policy, that their claims will be met.
If pet insurance has been purchased then the veterinary needs to their pet are met throughout the duration of the policy.
Charges
We make the following charges to cover the administration of your insurances:
- Non-refundable policy set up fee (new policies and renewals) - £50
- Policy Mid Term Adjustment Fee - £35
- Replacement / Duplicate Documents - £25
- Payments not honoured by your bank or late instalments - £25
- Collection of instalment from payment card - £10
- Cancellation of your policy or reduction in premium following a change in cover - 15% of the insurer's refund which is the commission which we retain plus £35 administration charge.
Please note that our administration charge, the charge for Hero Motor Assistance, Breakdown cover Keys and Locks cover and Helmet & Leathers policy premiums are non-refundable.
You will be informed of any applicable charges at the earliest opportunity .Where instant cover is required you may pay your additional premium over the telephone using your debit or credit card. Where a refund is due, for security reasons and where applicable it will be refunded to the payment card account used to pay the premium.
In the event you default on an agreed payment, including a monthly instalment from your bank, we will endeavour to collect the payment from the card you originally used. You will incur an administration charge if we need to do this. If we are unable to collect the outstanding amount from your card or if it remains unpaid, we will take steps to cancel your policy, in which case the cancellation charges shown above will apply.
In the event a premium refund is insufficient to cover any outstanding amount on your 1stQuote account, you will be required to pay the balance immediately, if you fail to do this, interest and debt collection charges will be added to your account.
Renewals
We will automatically invite your renewal with our most competitive insurer which may be your existing insurer or an alternative.
Please be aware that if you have chosen to pay by Debit or Credit Card or by Bank Direct Debit arrangements, subject to insurers being prepared to offer renewal, your payments will automatically continue to be taken from your designated account unless you contact us prior to renewal date. We will advise you of the forthcoming renewal well in advance. If you do not receive your new policy documentation for the forthcoming period, prior to renewal date, please contact us to ensure continuance of cover.
Cancellation
Within 14 days – For all new policies and renewal contracts you have the right to cancel this policy within 14 days of the receipt of your policy documents or the date the contract is concluded whichever is the later. Providing no claim has been made and you have notified us that you wish to cancel, a proportionate rate insurer charge for the period of cover plus our administration charge of £20 will apply. Provided you have not made a claim against an optional additional product you will be refunded the premium in full for these products.
Cancelling your policy outside of the cooling off period - Your policy is a contract for the period of insurance requested by you. If your insurance is cancelled for any reason after the first 14 days our cancellation fees will apply in addition to the charge made by your insurer for the cover you have had.
Claims
If you are unfortunate enough to need to make a claim, we have arranged for Claims Management specialists "ACM ULR" to be on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide you with invaluable assistance at your time of need. ACM ULR can be contacted on 0845 402 5513. Alternatively, you may contact your insurer directly to make a claim and details can be found on the enclosed policy summary and policy booklet. Please note that we will endeavour to provide every assistance with your claim enquiry, however we cannot accept any responsibility for the actions of your insurer in respect of your claim.
There is no refund for any optional additional products. Please note that insurers will not allow a refund if you have made a claim on your policy.
Withheld documents
We have the right to keep certain documents such as proof of no claim discount while we are awaiting payment of outstanding premium or administration charges. We will ensure that you have any documents you are required to have by law.

If you are dissatisfied with our response, you may approach the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London, E14 9SR, Tel: 0845 080 1800.
Disclosure
It is your responsibility to provide complete and accurate information to insurers when you take out your insurance policy, throughout the life of your policy and when you renew your insurance. Failure to disclose information pertaining to your insurance, or any inaccuracies in information given, could result in your insurance being invalid or cover not operating fully. For example, for motor insurance you must provide details of any vehicle modification and your personal details including driving history; for home insurance you must provide all details of the property and for travel insurance all details of any medical condition. It is important you ensure that all statements you make on proposal forms, claim forms and other documents are full and accurate. If a form is completed on your behalf, you should check that the answers shown to any questions are true and accurate before signing the document.
You are reminded that it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to make any false statements or withhold any relevant information to obtain an Insurance Certificate. Customers are reminded that it is their responsibility under the Road Traffic Act to ensure that they are in possession of a current valid cover note or certificate of insurance before using a vehicle. You are advised to keep copies of any correspondence you send to us or direct to your insurer. If you are in any doubt as to whether any information is material, you should disclose it. Failure to disclose any material facts could invalidate your policy or lead to a claim not being paid.
We will only deal with the first named person on the policy (the policy holder) for any adjustments or cancellation. Any requests by any other persons, including named drivers, family members etc. will not be actioned unless we have verbal or written consent from the policy holder.
Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register and Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud Register
Insurers pass information to the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register operated by Insurance Database Services Ltd and the Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud Register compiled by the Association of British Insurers. The objective is to check information provided and to prevent fraudulent claims. Motor insurance details are also added to the Motor Insurance Database operated by the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre (MIIC) which has been formed to help identify uninsured drivers and may be accessed by the Police to help confirm who is insured to drive. In the event of an accident, this database may be used by Insurers, MIIC and the Motor Insurance Bureau to identify relevant policy information. Other insurance related databases may also be added in the future.
Law applicable to this policy
You and we are free to choose the law applicable to this contract but in the absence of agreement to the contrary the law of the country in which you are resident at the time of the contract will apply. If you are not resident in the United Kingdom, the law which will apply will be the law of England and Wales.
Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
We are covered by the FSCS. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS on www.fscs.org.uk
